OTTAWA-BASED PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER
I'm Tri Nguyen, a portrait photographer whose journey began the old-fashioned way — with a fully mechanical camera. No auto-focus, no screen, just light, film, and instinct. I fell in love with the process: the click of the shutter, the smell of darkroom chemicals, and the anticipation of seeing an image slowly come to life.
That early discipline taught me to slow down, to observe the subtle expressions and gestures that tell a person's story, and to appreciate the magic in a single, honest frame. As I transitioned into the digital world, I embraced tools that offered more flexibility and precision — but the heart of my craft remains unchanged: connecting with people and capturing who they truly are.
Today, I specialize in portrait photography, both in the studio and outdoors. In the studio, I focus on crafting controlled lighting and thoughtful composition to highlight a person’s unique features and inner confidence. Outdoors, I embrace natural light and open environments to reveal authenticity, spontaneity, and the unspoken stories carried in a glance or a gesture.
Whether it’s a candid moment, a professional headshot, or a creative editorial, I aim to create images that reflect personality, emotion, and depth. Each portrait is an opportunity to celebrate the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
Beyond portraiture, my lens follows energy and expression across a variety of subjects. In sports photography, I capture the intensity, motion, and emotion that unfold in a split second — freezing raw determination, victory, and passion in time. At events, I document the spirit of connection, joy, and celebration, creating a visual story of shared memories. On the runway, I translate fashion shows into powerful visuals that highlight not only design and detail but also attitude and atmosphere.
When I turn to nature, it’s a chance to slow down and reconnect with the world’s quieter beauty. I photograph landscapes not just for scenery, but to convey mood — the softness of morning light, the drama of a passing storm, or the peace of a still horizon.
From a roll of film to today’s digital lenses, I carry the same passion: to frame the human spirit — and the world around it — beautifully, one shot at a time.
